Army Raises ASVAB Score Requirement

New Standards Effective Immediately

Technical Score Now Required to Join Active Duty

The U.S. Army has announced that it is raising the minimum ASVAB score required to join active duty as a Soldier. Effective immediately, all new recruits must score at least a 31 on the ASVAB's Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) placement test in order to be eligible for enlistment.

The previous minimum ASVAB score requirement was 21. The Army says that the increase is necessary to ensure that new recruits have the cognitive abilities needed to succeed in today's complex and demanding military environment.

The ASVAB is a multiple-choice test that measures a recruit's aptitude in various areas, including verbal, math, science, and mechanical reasoning. The test is used to determine a recruit's eligibility for different military occupations.

The Army says that the new ASVAB score requirement will not affect the number of new recruits it enlists each year. However, it is expected to result in a more qualified and capable force.

The Army has also announced that it is making changes to its height and weight standards for new recruits. Effective immediately, all new recruits must meet the following height and weight requirements:

*
  • Males: 5 feet 0 inches tall and weigh between 112 and 195 pounds
  • *
  • Females: 4 feet 10 inches tall and weigh between 92 and 165 pounds
  • The Army says that the new height and weight standards are necessary to ensure that new recruits are physically fit and able to meet the demands of military service.

These changes to the Army's enlistment standards are part of the Army's ongoing efforts to improve the quality of its force. The Army is committed to attracting and retaining the best and brightest Soldiers to serve our nation.
